Arylamine-formaldehyde condensation products.-The process of the parent Specification, according to which an arylamine or a salt thereof is condensed with formaldehyde (either in an acid medium or first in a neutral or alkaline medium and then in an acid medium) and the product is subsequently treated with an alkali or an alkaline salt, is modified in that the primary condensation product from one molecular proportion of arylamine or arylamine salt, and more than one molecular proportion of formaldehyde is treated with an organic base, a neutral or an acid salt, or an organic acid. Examples describe the treatment of an initial condensation product obtained from formaldehyde and aniline by the method of the parent Specification with (1) methylamine or pyridine or an aqueous solution thereof, (2) an aqueous solution of sodium bisulphite, ammonium chloride, or lead acetate, and (3) acetic acid or tannic acid. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers, in example 2, to the use of sodium sulphite and ammonium sulphide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
