Portable railways.-Portable turnouts for field railways comprise rail sections, cross ties, and ramps pressed in one piece from sheet metal. The straight rails 4, Fig. 1, and curved rails 5 are provided with grooves 6 and guards 9 forming rails of S-section connected by ties 7, and terminate in ramps 3. Tongues 2 may be provided. Where only curved rails are provided, Fig. 6, the turnout may be turned in its own plane to serve either as a right or as a left hand switch.
