Abstract

May 9, 1927 Luggage-racks.-A luggage-grid for a motorvehicle is adapted to be removably suspended from the boss 5 of a spare-wheel carrier or from a similar support on the rear of the vehicle and comprises a rear luggage-carrying part or grid proper 1 and a forward part 16 engaging underneath the vehicle body and having side arms 8 extending rearwardly of the suspension means. In the construction shown the suspensions means comprises a transverse rod 3 having its ends passed through and bolted to a cross-bar 2 which is connected to the side arms 8, while a short piece of angle-iron 10 is fixed to the centre of the cross-bar 2 so that, by causing the parts 2, 10 to engage with the external and internal surfaces respectively of the lower portion of the rear 7 of the vehicle body, longitudinal movement of the carrier may be prevented. Instead of the angleiron 10, screws passing through the forward member 9 of the frame 16 into the underframe may be used for preventing the displacement of the carrier. The spare wheel 6 is accommodated between the cross-bar 2 and forward transverse bar of the hinged grid 1.
