Abstract

Condensers. - In a wave meter, heterodyne oscillator, or calibrated amplifier in which oscillations are set up in a tuned circuit containing an inductance and a variable condenser, the condenser plates are shaped to give a linear relationship between angular movement of the condenser spindle and wavelength or frequency, a small adjustable condenser is provided in parallel with the main condenser, and the inductance is adjustable. In the wave meter shown, a variable condenser 11 is provided with an adjustable plate 18 forming, with one of the fixed plates, a small auxiliary condenser. This is adjusted, when the instrument is being calibrated, until a linear law is obtained. The zero is then corrected by adjusting the dial 12 on the spindle and clamping in the required position, or by altering the datum line. The main dial 12 of the condenser preferably has a toothed edge 13 engaging a pinion having a knob and secondary dial, the readings on which are in. smaller units than those on the main dial.
