Abstract

274,103. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. July 9, 1926, [Convention date]. Naphthalene-1 : 4 : 5 : 8-tetracarboxylic acid is obtained by oxidizing the cyclic ketonic compounds obtainable according to the process of Specification 274,095 from. acenaphthene and a dicarboxylic anhydride derived from maleic anhydride by addition ot an additive molecule at the double bond. The oxidation mav be effected in acid or alkaline medium with bichromate or permanganate. According to examples the condensation product from acenaphthene and succinic anhydride is oxidized with sodium bichromate in glacial acetic acid or dilute sulphuric acid solution.
