Repeating and amplifying systems.-In a long transmission line, the maximum frequency to be transmitted is limited by the admissible building up period of the current, which is a rapidly increasing function of the frequency, and according to the invention the amplifiers are so adjusted that this maximum frequency is equal to the maximum frequency imposed by the limiting attenuation value. Fig. 2a shows the attenuation curve a of an amplifier section and the amplifying curve /3 of the corresponding amplifier, which give rise to the residual attenuation curve of Fig. 2b. The maximum frequency is therefore fixed bv the limiting attenuation value b‹. A line comprising n sections has n-1 amplifiers, so that the residual attenuation of the whole line differs from the attenuation of one section by an amount substantially proportional to the building up period.
