Abstract

273,897. Cerfvol, A., Fisher, J. A., Shears, F. W., Lumsden, E., and Raymond, C. July 7, 1926. Screw proprellers.-Relates to screw propellers and fans in which the blades are built up on a series of rods arranged fan shaped and consists in using tapered springy rods covered by a flexible material the inner ends of the rods being secured to a rigid support on the boss and the thinner outer ends being flexibly connected. The rods 1 are screwed into a support 2 forming part of a bell crank lever 4 pivoted to the boss. Two strips of rubber 9 maintain the rods in fan formation ; alternatively springs between the rods are enclosed in a flexible fabric. The outer ends are coupled by links 14. A flexible fabric 15 forms the surfaces of the blades and it is secured by stitching 16 along the rods 1. Instead of a fabric, metal plates hinged to the rods may be used. The rods may be roughened to assist in retaining the cover.
