Abstract
273,789. Noell, A. April 1, 1926. Rolling.-Rolled bars which have been cut are discharged into a receiving channel or channels whence they are passed on to a cooling-bed in groups with spaces between each group and thus travel to the end of the bed from which thev are lifted off at the end to make room for succeeding groups, the whole operation of grouping, spacing, and traversing being performed automatically, either mechanically or electrically. Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation of the cooling-bed &c. Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional elevation of the control mechanism &c. in which the rod d, which moves the bars along, has a constant vertical stroke and an adjustable horizontal stroke. Fig. 7 is a diagrammatic arrangement of the automatic electrical control. A bar arriving in the receiving channel closes a switch 42 which starting a motor 25, causes the discharging flaps c to lift the bar on to an incline h. A cam on the discharging mechanism starts up the main motor 21 driving the main shaft 19 which is provided with a series of cams as follows : Cam 18 to operate linkwork 16 to give vertical reciprocation to the rod d ; cam u with lever 9 and engaged by a clutch 7 for making the horizontal control stroke; cam 10 with mechanism engaged by clutch 7 for producing the spacing stroke between the sets of bars ; cam 23 operating a. cut-out to stop the motor. The main shaft 19 is also provided with gears y operating timing pin-wheels and interchangeable chain i which determines the variable number of bars collected in a group to be passed over the cooling-bed. After the spacing stroke has been made the electromagnet 6 is out out by opening switch 5 and a second collection of bars begins while at the right-hand end the discharging carriages f begin to lift the end group of bars off the bed, such operation being started by the switch 34 starting the motor 31. This end group may be held suspended while the next group is passed into position, the end group being finallv moved by a. motor 35 which is cut out after discharge and the discharger f starts lowering again. The initial bar-receiver may consist of several channels formed by partitions provided with pockets at their upper edges.
