Abstract

Reciprocating or oscillating sieves.- Machines for sifting potters' slip, powdered substances &c. comprise one or more lawn frames having a see-saw movement, and preferably also means for adjusting the frame so as to regulate the tautness of the lawn and facilitate its attachment. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the lawn frames c consist of two lengths of wood c<1> held apart by distance and tension rods c<2> and nuts c<4>, and carrying the lawn c<5>. The frames are mounted on transverse pivots d and actuated by a common rod f and eccentric g. Collecting boxes b are placed under the lawns and pass the material to the next lawn in the series or to the final receptacle. Guards m are provided to prevent the coarser particles passing into the boxes b. In modified constructions, the lawns are made in V- or inverted V-form, the charging being at the highest and the discharge at the lowest part. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 23007/00, 7194/07, 4475/10, 117,195, and 118,800.
