Abstract

272,702. Beckwith, J. July 22, 1926. Pottery and like kilns.-Pipes and other articles made from pressed meerschaum are placed in a perforated container 5 which is inserted in a wooden frame 1 lined with brick 2 and earth 3. The interior of the kiln thus formed is filled with a layer of charcoal A and wood B, air being admitted by pipes 4 and the products of combustion escaping by a pipe 7. A metal screen 6 covered with straw and earth C is placed over the kiln. The wooden container may be replaced by a long channel of brick filled with wood and having a chimney at one end near to which the pipes are arranged. The fire is started at the end of the channel remote from the chimney.
