Abstract

272,697. Clemens, J. July 9, 1926. Pumps, syringes, and like appliances. - An appliance for injecting liquids into or withdrawing them from the body, e.g. for blood transfusion, comprises a flexible rubber tube a having collars b retained in slots d in the upturned edges of a plate c. The ends of the tube a are provided for example with needles for blood transfusion; one end may have a T-piece h permitting the introduction of auxiliary fluid ; the other end is of smaller diameter and may have a collar permitting the insertion of the smaller end into and the close engagement with the larger end when the appliance is not in use. The plate c is provided, at one end, with stops e, f one of which is laterally slidable, and at the other end with a longitudinally slidable stop g. The stops e, f kink the tube a and form an obstruction past which a measured quantity of liquid, as indicated by the stops f, g and a scale on the plate c, may be forced by pressure of the hand. The stops e, f may be resiliently mounted. The collars b have inclined bearing surfaces in order that, by rotating the tube, the free ends thereof may be brought into line with the arteries or veins treated. The upturned edges of the plate c may be replaced by stops which may be inclined or be rotatable. The collars b may be replaced by hardened e.g. vulcanized portions of the tube which may be provided with detachable securing devices. The stops e, f, may be replaced by a spring clip and the whole device may, if desired, be used without the plate c, the collar on the inflow side of the tube being held in the hand and the displacement of the liquid being effected by squeezing the tube progressively towards the outflow end.
