Abstract

348,454. Surgical syringes &c. KœNSZTLER, M., 3, V. GÚza Utca, Budapest. July 10, 1930, No. 20906. [Class 81 (ii).] A hypodermic syringe 2 of the kind having an unperforated piston is adapted for the injection of a large quantity of liquid by the provision of a lateral tube 4, on the needle cap 1, opening into the delivery passage 3a leading to the needle 11. The tube 4 is provided with a cock 5 and a spigot 6 permitting connection by flexible tubing with a reservoir of injection medium which may comprise a graduated vessel, a bottle under air pressure produced by a rubber bulb, or a large syringe. In use injection liquid is allowed to flow from the reservoir &c. into the needle 11 to fill the connecting tubes: the flow is then stopped, and a physiologically inert liquid drawn into and expelled from the syringe to displace the injection medium in the needle. Finally the needle is inserted into the vein and the injection fluid allowed to flow in under hydrostatic or other pressure. The cock 5 may be replaced by a clip on the flexible connecting tube or by a three-way cook in the part 1 controlling both the lateral and delivery passages. The portion 3a may be axially or eccentrically disposed and may be straight or curved. The portion 6 may comprise a tapered socket adapted to receive a tapered spigot or other connecting piece secured to the flexible tube. The syringe may be used as an ordinary hypodermic syringe.
