Abstract

A spring loaded infusion syringe having an integral three-way rotary valve or stopcock C at the delivery end of the syringe body. To load the syringe; valve C is rotated to form a continuous fluid passage between the syringe reservoir and inlet-port A. Plunger G is then withdrawn using handle E until loading of the syringe is completed after which valve C is rotated to close off the reservoir. Plunger handle B may then be unscrewed to make the unit more compact and discreet. When infusion is required Valve C is rotated to allow outflow of medicament from microbored outlet-port F due to the pressure of spring D on plunger G. The infusion rate or flow of fluid can be controlled by varying the bore diameter of outlet-port F. <IMAGE>

Description

A method of administering a controlled infusion via a spring loaded syringe.
Detailed description of the invention.
The syringe resevoir is charged by turning the valve (C) so the fluid path is aligned with the inlet (A) and the syringe resevoir (E).FIG.l.The fluid to be infused is connected to the inlet (A) and the syringe plunger (B) is drawn back against the spring tension (D) filling the syringe resevoir(E).
The valve (C) can then be turned to a position stopping the infusion being delivered to the patient through outlet (F) or back through inlet (A).FIG.2.
The syringe plunger (B)can be unscrewed from the stopper (G) making the unit more compact/discreet for the patient to carry.
The valve (C)can then be turned to position FIG.3 open to resevoir (E)and outlet (F).The spring pressure (D) forcing the stopper (G) down the barrel (H) delivering the fluid through the microbored outlet (F).
(F)is a microbored opening of a specific inside diameter allowing a controlled infusion. By varying the size of the outlet ,the amount of fluid and the duration of time it is given over can be predetermined.

Claims (1)

1)A controlled infusion syringe comprising integral rotary filling, metering and control valve.Through rotating the valve the syringe can be loaded with fluid through port 'A'.Once loaded the valve can be rotated to allow the fluid to be delivered from the syringe via a microbored outlet "F' 2) A controlled infusion syringe which is loaded by drawing back on the plunger.A spring powers the delivery of fluid from the syringe reservoir by pressurising the fluid inside the barrel. When the rotary valve is set to delivery fluid via port 'F' The patient receives a controlled amount of fluid;the amount of fluid and the duration of time to empty the syringe can be predetermined through varying the micro bore diameter to suit the time requirements.
3)A controlled infusion syringe with removable syringe plunger handle which can be unscrewed to enable the patient to carry the syringe more discreetly.
