Abstract
272,651. Fry, E. B. April 14, 1926. Drying materials in long lengths.-A wiper for drying wet film or paper strip 6 comprises wiping elements or brushes 2 mounted in staggered relation on opposite holders 3 so that the strip, as it is drawn through the wiper is bent into undulatory form and pressed against the brushes. The holders may comprise arms 3 hinged together, at the end remote from the brushes, or connected by parallel rods at each end, and normally pressed apart by a spring 5. After insertion of the film &c., the arms are pressed together by hand, and arrested in operative wiping position by stops 4. The wiping elements may be made of bristles, fibre, canvas, or rubber, or of a densely-woven fabric made of flax with the ends teased out to form a brush-like surface. The wiper may be used in the hand, or be secured to a wall or bench by screws passing through one of the brush-holders.
