Be it known that I, FRANK Hansen, a citizen of the United States, re-l siding at Philadelphia, in the county `of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in VVindow-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in window cleaners, and has for its object to combine a duster, washer' and wiper, so that each one may be readily used and is so constructed as to enable the user to clean both high and low windows without having to stand upon a ladder, chair or other object. p

A further object of the invention 1s .to produce a` device of this character which will be compact, light in weight, inexpensive in the cost of manufacture, although very strong and durable.

Other objects of the invention are to provide means for holding the dust-brush at a certain angle and to provide an adjustable handle so that the saine may be readily lengthened for washing windows which are ordinarily out of reach.

With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then speeiiically designated by the claim.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my `improved window cleaner showing portions thereof broken away to more clearly illustrate the construction. Fig. 2, an edge view of the dust-brush. Fig. 3, an enlarged end view thereof. Fig. 4, an enlarged end view of the washer and wiper, the brush being removed, and a portion of the frame being broken away. Fig. 5, a longitudinal sectional view of the handle at the joint.

In carrying out my invention as here embodied, 2 represents the frame having integral arms, 3, one of which is provided with a small hole 4, intermediate its ends.

The frame is provided with a socket 5, in which fits one end of the handle 6, the opposite end of said handle carrying a ferrule 7, which is provided with a slot 8, having mounted therein one end of the link 9, said link being pivoted in place by the rivet or other suitable means l0. The opposite end of said link is pivoted in the saine manner in the slot l1 formed. in the end of the ferrule l2 which is mounted upon the auxiliary handle 13. The last named ferrnle is provided with a flange 14 which acts as a stop for the sliding sleeve l5, said sleeve being mounted upon the handle 6, and adapted to slide over the ferrules 7 and 12 when they are in alinement end to end causing the auxiliary handle to be rigidly held in alinement with the handle proper, thus increasing the length of the handle. The meeting ends of the ferrules are rounded as at 16 to permit their ready adjustment with relation to one another and to act as a guide for the sleeve l5.

The free end of the auxiliary handle is provided with a slot 17 which registers with the U-shaped catch 18 pivoted at 19 to the handle 6, so that when the auxiliary handle 13 is folded alongside of the handle G, said catch 1S will hold said. auxiliary handle in place permitting the device to be used without hindrance.

Between the arms 3 of the frame 2, is pivoted the base-block 20 by means of pins 21 which pass through the ends of the arms 3, and are threaded into the plates 22 mounted upon the ends of the base-block and held thereto by screws or their equivalent 23. The two opposite longer edges of the base-block are provided with longitudinal grooves 24 in which lie the edges of the washing cloth 25 said cloth covering one face of the base-block and being held in place by the clamps 26 pivoted at 27. On the other face of the base-block is permanently mounted the wiper 28 preferably of corrugated rubber with the corrugations running length-wise of the block and the edges of this corrugated rubber are fastened by tacks or their equivalent to the edges of the basoblock. One edge of the base-block is provided with perforations 29 while the opposite edge is provided with a pin 30.

The brush 31 has mounted thereon L shaped attaching means 32, each of said attaching mea-ns being provided with a pintle 33, adapted to register with the perforations 29 and opposite to said attaching means is mounted a fastening means 34 having pivoted thereto a catch, said catch being provided with a slot 36 adapted to register with the pin 30, thus securely holding the brush upon the base block as shown in Fig. l.

When the brush is being used, it is necessary t0 hold the same at some desired angle and in order to accomplish this, I provide a pivoted finger 37 a portion of which is off-set as at 38 to produce a shoulder 39 for engagement with one edge of one of the arms 3, the free end of this finger' carries a pin 40 which registers with the hole 4l, in the arm 3, thus securely holding the brush at the vdesired angle.

In practice, the brush is used for dusting down the window sills, window panes and the like, and if these are too high to be reached with lthe handle folded up, the same may be lengthened as heretofore described. After the dusting is finished, the brush is removed by springing' the finger 37 outward until the pin 40 is disengaged from the hole 4, after which time, the catch 85 is thrown t0 one side and the brush is removed. The washing element or cloth should be of a suitable absorbent material which Will hold sufficient water for the proper washing of one or more window panes. After the window has been washed, the base-block is then reversed, so that the Wiper will engage the window, by drawing same downward over the Window, the Water will be removed.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as here described, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is-` In a window cleaner the combination of a frame, a base block, having erforations in one edge thereof and carrying a pin upon the opposite edge for securing a brush thereto, plates secured to the ends of the base block, means passing through a portion of the frame and into the plates for pivoting the base block to the frame, clamps pivoted to the ends of the base block for detachably securing a Wash cloth in place and a handle secured to said frame.
