336,167. Posgate, J. L. Aug. 24, 1929, [Convention date]. Measuring-tapes.-A cleaning device comprises a clip member open at the side and adapted to engage and clean the tape. Two rectangular members 1 are formed with side flanges 2 spaced apart the width of the tape 3. One of the side flanges of each member has an extension forming a finger piece 4 and each extension is provided with lugs 6 through which a pivot pin 7 passes. A spring 8 surrounds the pin the ends engaging the extensions. A lip 10 is formed on the end of the member to receive a lip formed on the end of the other member the ends of the lip being turned up to form scrapers. Pads impregnated with oil are placed in the members 1. in another form of the device, the members are curved to conform to the casing and one member is formed with a frame extension which is secured to the casing of the tape. This frame will be provided with the usual roller between which the tape passes on leaving the casing. The open side of the cleaner in this form is provided with a spring tongue engaging over a slight protuberance on the other section.
