Abstract

272,044. Mead, F. W. June 19, 1926. Worm pumps.-A bearing bush 3 for a revolving shaft 2, of a machine, such as the cam shaft of an internal-combustion engine, immersed in lubricant in a casing 12, is provided with oppositely-arranged helical grooves 10, 11 extending from the ends of the bush to a central circumferential groove 5 which communicates through a hole 7 in the bush and passages 6, 8 in the bearing housing with a lubricant delivery pipe 9. By this arrangement, lubricant is pumped from the casing 12 to the pipe 9, which leads to the working parts of the engine. Alternatively, the groove 5 may communicate with the passage 8 through a hole 16. the passage 6 being omitted and the discharge through the hole 7 being led direct to a bearing. A passage 14 is provided in the housing to put the end of the casing 12, into which lubricant is fed at 13, into communication with the intermediate part thereof.
