Abstract
272,005. Heaton, J. H., and Matthews, H. April 22, 1926. Driving-gear for washing, mangling, and wring- ing machines.-The lower roller shaft 3a of the mangle is driven from the shaft 12 either through the train 14, 15, 17, 23, 24. 25 or through the train 14, 15, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, the pinions 15, 17, 18, 19 being carried by a frame 20 pivoted about the axis 16 of the pinion 15. A sliding bar 22 having inclined surfaces 22a. 22c which coact with rollers 22b, 22d carried by the frame 20, is provided to move the frame into one or other of its operative positions, or to maintain it in an intermediate neutral position wheren it may be held by a catch 30. The shaft 31 of the washer carries fast and loose gear wheels 32, 33, the loose gear wheel 33 having a cam track 33a. The cam follower 38 is carried by a plate 35 pivoted about the axis 34d of pinions 34a, 34b and carrying at opposite ends a single pinion 36 and a pair of pinions 37, 37a. The loose wheel is continuously driven through the train 14, 34, 34a, 34b, 34c, causing the cam follower to swing the plate to engage the single pinion 36 or the pair of pinions 37, 37a alternately with the fast gear wheel 32. The intermediate pinion 34a is provided with spring-actuated plungers to prevent overstrain.
