Abstract

Projectile fuzes, apparatus for setting.-A fuze-setting device rotates the time ring by means of a helical guide of large diameter when the projectile is pushed axially into the device, the extent of the axial movement being determined by an adjustable stop. As shown, the device comprises a cylindrical body A formed with a helical guide slot A<1>, and a spring-controlled sliding-box adapted to receive the nose of the projectile. The sliding box comprises two non- rotatable rings E, F, guided by a straight slot a, and a rotatable ring C having a projecting roller C<1> engaging the slot A<1> and kept in engagement with one side of it by a spring I. The rings C, E are formed internally with a series of notches c, e, Fig. 4, adapted to engage projections d, h on the movable and fixed time rings D, H respectively. The adjustable stop comprises a cylinder G sliding in the body A and operated by a rack g and pinion K. The pinion K is operated by a. hand-wheel K<6>, Fig. 1, and intermediate gearing, the hand-wheel also operating a pointer L adapted to move over a drum M bearing fuze curves corresponding to different ranges or heights. The drum M is rotated.through an angle proportional to the quadrant elevation of gearing N, O. P, Q.
