Abstract

271,347. Lambot, J. Dec. 7, 1926. Charging.-In charging apparatus for gas producers, shaft furnaces, and the like, fuel is fed from a hopper 6 by a screw 9 to a rotary vertical shoot 13 which delivers on to an inclined troughshaped distributor 23 which rotates with the shoot 13 and is, in addition, given an oscillating motion of a different period from that of the rotation of the shoot 13. The distributor 23 is carried by an arm 24 pivoted at 25 to a ring 15 secured to the shoot 13, which ring is guided by rollers 18 and is adapted to make a gas-tight joint 16, 17 at the mouth 4 of the producer. On the upper end of the arm 24 is adjustably mounted a roller 26 which bears against a cam 27, shaped as shown in Figs. 3 or 4, and secured to a gear wheel 28 which is loosely mounted on the shoot 13. The latter is rotated, through spur and pinion gearing 19, 20 and bevel wheels 12, 22, from the screw shaft 10, the vertical shaft 21, on which are mounted the gear wheels 20, 22, also carrying a pinion 29 meshing with the gear wheel 28. The ratios of the gears 19, 20 and 28, 29 are given different values. On the end of the shaft 10 is provided a clutch 30 which may be disconnected in order that the shoot 13 and distributor 23 may remain stationary while fuel is still being fed by the screw 9.
