271,337. Lazarus, W. Nov. 15, 1926. Incrustation, preventing. - Incrustation in steam boilers is prevented by the addition of soot to the water. The soot may be previously heated under reduced or increased pressure to remove odorous substances, and it may be washed and filtered before or after heating. The soot may then be evaporated to a paste or completely dried. Silicates or finely divided metals may be added to the soot to keep it in suspension in the boiler, and dextrine, gum arabic, or glue may also be 'added.
