Abstract

270,879. Marston, G. S. April 12, 1926. Automatic circuit-breakers have two levers 13 carrying movable bridging contacts 17 pivoted on a pin 14 carried by a frame 12 on the base of the casing 11. The ends of the levers are joined by togglelinks 16 and springs 15 the common pivot 21 of the toggle sliding in a slot 20. To close the circuit-breaker a sliding operating rod 22 is first moved inwards, Fig. 5, to cause the engagement of the pin 21 by pivoted spring- pressed hook-ended arms 26 carried at its inner end. The rod 22 is then moved outwardly to bring the toggle across the dead-centre as shown in Fig. 1 so closing the circuits between fixed contacts 18. The circuit breaker is tripped by a sliding-sleeve 30 surrounding the rod 22 which when engaged by a pivoted arm 34 under the control of a no-volt electromagnet 32 and overload electromagnet 33 acts upon the projecting ends of the hooked levers to release the pin 21 and by means of a projection 40 Breaks the toggle so permitting the spring 15 to open the circuit breaker. The circuit breaker may be tripped manually by inward movement of the operating rod.
