Abstract

Hand trucks of the kind having a frame which is elevated 'by means of a slotted link pivoted to the transporting handle are provided with retarding mechanism brought into operation by the operator when the frame is being lowered, such mechanism comprising quadrants on which rollers, confined to move in a circular path, roll and means, including a control rendering the quadrants eccentric to circular path to introduce a retarding ef elevating platform 4 is raised by mean slotted link 10 pivoted at 11 to the h rollers 15 constrained to move in a circu about the centre 6 riding on pivoted quad: and the platform is locked in its elevated position by means of a pivoted latch 24 engaging a spindle 8 and also, when the handle is raised to vertical position, a pin 29 on the control rod 18. To lower the frame, the control rod 18 is moved, causing the pivoted latch to release the frame which thereupon tends to fall under gravity. The control rod has, however, by means of a lever 16, 16', moved the quadrants 12 eccentrically, thus tending to jamb the frame through the rollers 15. Manipulation of the control rod 18 varies the eccentricity of the quadrants and allows the frame to fall gradually.
