Abstract

268,464. Priestman, S. H. Jan. 13, 1926. Rod couplings.-Telescopic guide-members a, b connecting the top cross-bar g and the lower cross-beam h of a grab, are provided with a third guide member c which gives additional lateral support to the members a, b when fully extended, the guide members being adapted to form dashpots for cushioning the opening of the grab. As shown in Fig. 2, the member c is provided with a piston head d and is a good sliding fit in the members a, b. It is connected by a chain f to the cross-bar g so as to take up a suitable position when the guides are extended. In modifications, the chain is replaced by a headed rod o, Fig. 4, the member c is replaced by a rod r, Fig. 6, working through a stuffing-box s in the member b and attached to the lower end of the member a, or the rod c works in an inner tube t in the member a, Fig. 8.
