Abstract

268,246. Nash, S. G., and Hawker Engineering Co., Ltd., H. G. Nov. 3. 1926. Mountings for use on aircraft.- Relates to mountings, particularly those for machine guns fixed to aircraft, having means for effecting fine adjustments about horizontal and vertical axes for alignment purposes. According to the invention, the gun is connected by a bolt with a fixed U-shaped bracket, turning movement of the bolt effecting one adjustment, and axial displacement of the bolt or of bushes associated therewith effecting the other adjustment. In the form shown, the gun x is connected to the fuselage or frame 4 at two points by readily dismountable pins 8, 23, a universal joint 9 being provided at one point and adjusting means according to the invention at the other point. The pin 23 connects the gun to a member 1 supported by an eccentric bush 5 on a bolt 2 rotatable for vertical adjustment of the gun. The bolt 2 is supported in fixed lugs 3 on the frame 4 by screwed bushes 6 which bear against the member 1 and are turned to effect horizontal adjustment of the gun. Adjustment is effected by spanners engaging notches 11, 10 on the bolt and bushes, the bolt being locked by a plate 12 thereon engaging over a locking pin 15, and the bushes being retained by lock-nuts 22.
