A lock barrel i carrying a bolt m is housed in the member g and on the operation of a key k<1> the bolt may be inserted in one of the apertures n, o. If in the latter the ignition circuit is closed by the compression of a spring p; if in the former the bolt engages also an aperture e in the column d and therefore locks the steering gear. The withdrawal from the ignition switch opens the circuit thus giving an additional safeguard.
