Abstract
314,847. Dehn, F. B., (Hershey Manufacturing Co.). April 2, 1928. Divided on 314,830. Guarding against unauthorized use.-A steering lock has two controls, one a sliding bolt and the other an ignition switch movable independently. A lock casing A is secured to the dash-board E by a bolt 18 and to the steering column B and dash-board by bolt 17. The barrel 30 of the lock protrudes through the dash-board while the handles 21 of a switch for interrupting the ignition circuit is located behind it. When the key is turned an eccentric 35 on the barrel 30 forces' a plunger 20 to the left so that a bolt 22 passes through the column B into a collar D secured to steering shaft C and locks the latter. The switch comprises a slide 41 carrying a bridge 42. A pin 47 is secured to the slide and passes into an. inclined groove in the plunger 20: When the plunger is moved into the locking position shown the slide is moved with it and the circuit 45, 46 is broken. By turning the plunger,by means of the handle, 21 without operating the lock the circuit may be broken and the steering left free.. Specification 314,830 is referred to.
