Kinematograph apparatus. - In apparatus according to the parent Specification, the gate comprises a hinged plate which is slightly curved in proximity to a feed sprocket and has raised longitudinal edges against which a second plate is resiliently pressed. As shown, the apparatus comprises parallel plates 1, 2, 3, the plate 2 being bent so as to form a tube 11. The spindle 5 of a feed spool 6 is journaled in the plates 1, 3 above the tube 11, and a sprocket 49, having teeth 50, and secured to a maltese cross 38 having eight slots, is mounted below, and close to, the tube 11, and between the plates 2, 3. The maltese cross is driven by a pin wheel 40 on a spindle 41 carrying a flywheel 42 and is operated by a hand crank 8 through gearing 23, 25. The gate comprises a plate 52 mounted on a pivot 53 and curved near the sprocket 49, and also a second plate 56 pressed against the raised edges of the plate 52 by a spring 57. A tappet 61 may be turned by hand about a pivot 60 to move the gate so that the sprocket becomes disengaged from the film when the film is to be rewound on to the spool 6. The apparatus is enclosed in a box 69 slidable into a casing 27 containing a takeup roller 71 driven by pulleys 73, 74 and a belt 75. The casing 27 may be replaced by a bracket mounted on the plates 1, 2 and carrying a takeup roller. The tube 11 contains a lens 66, and, when an image is to be projected on to a screen, a lamp 65, and a projection lens, may be provided. When the images are to be directly viewed, a microscope is placed in tho tube 11 in place of the lamp 65, the microscope being provided with a funnel-shaped eye piece. The apparatus may be provided with a rotating shutter.
