267,285. Barr & Stroud, Ltd., Strange J. M., and MacGill, C. D. Feb. 13, 1926. Transfer - mechanism. - In an apparatus for indicating progressive numbers step-by-step in a continuous manner in positive and negative directions, the numerals on the highest drum are arranged in two or more circumferential rows and the particular row or combination of rows to be read is selected automatically by an apertured shutter controlled by the drum through transfer-mechanism. As shown applied to a gun-laying receiving-instrument, the counter comprises drums D, D<1>, D<2> actuated from a pinion 5 through transfer wheels 6, 8, 9, 10 and inscribed with numerals reading from 0‹ to 360‹ by quarters of degrees. The last drum D<2> is graduated from " blank " to 35 to denote tens of degrees and the numerals may be arranged in three rows as exemplified by the developed view given by Fig. 5. Surrounding the drum is a cylindrical shutter E apertured as shown in Fig. 6 and geared by transfer-mechanism 26, 28, 29, 30 with the drum. When one series of numerals, say " blank " to 11 visible through aperture A, is exhausted, the shutter moves so as to expose through apertures B, B the shaded numerals 12 - - 23 and if the drum completes another turn the final row 24 - - 35 may be read through the openings C, C.
