Abstract

266,857. Handley, A. C. Jan. 6,1926. Filters with loose filtering-materials. - Open tank filters, primarily intended for treating sewage or effluent from dye, chemical or other works, are provided with elements formed by packing coir fibre between sheets of expanded metal. Such elements may slide vertically in guides a<3>, Fig. 2, which are arranged in pairs to facilitate replacement when fresh elements are required. An inlet a<4>, outlet a<5> and overflow a<6> are provided. The metal sheets of each element are spaced apart by bolts. Fig. 5 shows a cross-section of an arrangement in which V-shaped elements are supported on angle-irons a<7>, a<8>, filtration being either upward or downward. When corrosive liquids are treated the expanded metal sheets may be of copper.
