Abstract

266,616. James, R. W., (Brown Instrument Co.). Aug. 31, 1926. Integrating.-In mechanism wherein a control element associated with the indicating pointer determines the extent of movement of a counting mechanism controlled by a motor or other driving means the actuating mechanism of the counter is retained by a latching means out of engagement with the driving means and is released to permit of engagement at an interval following each latching dependent on the position of the control element. As shown in Fig. 1 applied to a fluid flow meter as described in Specification 279,977, [Class 106 (ii), Dynamometers &c.], a magnetic core e of a pair of solenoids f, f<1> receives movements in accordance with the rate of flow and transmits the same through a lever K and link to an arm H<1> on the shaft H of the indicating pointer I and recording arm J<3>. The shaft H carries a control arm S formed as a flat flexible blade, the position of which determines the amount of rotary movement imparted to a disc U controlling the actua tion of a counting mechanism X. The disc U is journaled in an arm T pivoted at G<2> and is moved into and out of engagement with a constantly rotating cam disc M<1> driven by a timing motor L by means of a lever P pivoted at G<1> and oscillated by a link O connected to a crank pin M<2> on the disc M<1>. On the pivot G<1> is supported a tripping member Q which co-operates with a latch R pivoted at P<1> to the lever P and provided with a pin R<1> working in a slot in the arm T. On the downward movement of the lever P the parts Q, R remain interlocked until the end Q<3> of the member Q strikes the control arm S whereupon the latch R is released and the disc U engages the raised part m of the disc M<1>. A roller P<2> on the lever P at the same time engages the arm S to prevent it being displaced. The disc U through worm gearing drives a shaft W having an arm W<1> actuating the counter X. In a modification shown in Fig. 8, the shaft W carries the lowest counting wheel W<4> and each revolution of the shaft is transmitted to the counting mechanism X by a power driven shaft Z. This shaft has secured thereto a ratchet wheel Z<1> and loosely mounted thereon a cam disc Z<2>. A spring controlled pawl Z<3> pivoted to the cam disc is held free of the teeth of the ratchet wheel by a plate W<2> on the shaft W until a peripheral notch W<3>. Fig. 10 thereon permits the pawl to engage the ratchet teeth whereby the cam rotates for one revolution so as to rock a lever Y actuating through a link Y<1> the counter X. A spring controlled arm Z<6> is provided to give the cam disc a sudden movement to disengage the pawl Z<3>. The wheel W<4> is connected to the shaft W by means of a. spring W<5> and an arm on the wheel co-operates with a stop proiection X<3> on the actuating arm X<1> to ensure that the arm X<1> is actuated before the wheel W<4> reaches its zero position. In a. further modification the arm Y may be dispensed with and the arm Z<6> be utilized to actuate the counter arm X<1>.
