Abstract
381,230. Integrating-apparatus. ELECTROFLO METERS CO., Ltd. and ENGEL, F. V. A. E., Abbey Road, Park Royal, London. July 3, 1931, No. 19227. [Class 106 (iv).] An integrating mechanism, particularly for fluid flow meters, of the type in which a displaceable member is adapted to control the period of engagement between a coupling device driven by the driving mechanism and a member of the counting train, is provided with means for rendering the coupling device inoperative throughout a predetermined range of values, e.g. at the lower rates of flow where the movement is non-linear. The said means functions in such a manner that the continuous operation of the driving mechanism is uninterrupted. The mechanism shown, Figs. 1 and 2, is similar to that described in Specification 348,320 and comprises a ratchet wheel 2 actuating a counting train and adapted to be actuated by pawls 10 pivoted on arms 7 8, secured to a drum 5 driven by a clockwork or other mechanism. The period of engagement of the pawls is controlled by a pair of flanged discs 3, 4, the disc 3 being stationary while the disc 4 is displaced in accordance with the value of the quantity measured. To hold the pawls 10 out of engagement over a range of measurement the displaceable disc 4 carries a plate 16 having a cam or bridge member 15 adapted to co-operate with pins 18 projecting from the pawls. The fixed disc 3 is provided with a cam plate 19 which raises the pawls free of the discs and ratchet wheel. For rates of flow which are small the pins ride over the bridge member 15 so as to prevent their engagement. When the rate of flow is such that the bridge member 15 is moved away from the cam plate 19 the pawl moves through the gap into engagement with the ratchet teeth. In order to adjust the period of disengagement the plate 16 may be adjustably mounted on the disc 4. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, the disc 4 is provided with a pin 23 that co-operates with an arm 20 pivoted on a frame plate at 21 so as to hold it in raised position, during low rates of flow, in engagement with a roller 24 on the pawl 10 thereby rendering it inoperative. The positions of the pin and arm may be interchanged and either or both may be adjustably supported. In another modification shown in Fig. 7 the masking plate for the pawls is separate from the movable disc 4 and is arranged to be moved synchronously therewith. The pin 30 on the pawl co-operates with a sector 31 connected by gearing 33.. 37 to a wheel 32 integral with the disc. For regulation purposes the sector 31 is adjustably mounted on its axis 38.
