Abstract
265,994. Komlos, J., Komlos, A., and Engelke, E. F., (Assignees of Vajdaffy, A. von). Feb. 16, 1926, [Convention date]. Carbon bisulphide; sulphuretted hydrogen; hydrogen cyanide; sulphocyanic acid. - Carbon bisulphide and sulphuretted hydrogen are produced by interaction at elevated temperature of sulphur or metallic sulphides with hydrocarbons, particularly those of the acetylene series, with or without the use of contact substances, such as carbon, metals or metal oxides or compounds. The reaction takes place at 380-450‹ C. when free sulphur is used, and at 500-850‹ C. in the case of metallic sulphides. Acetylene may be burned in sulphur vapour or vice versa or acetylene may be brought into contact with sulphur heated nearly to boiling point. Acetylene and gas purifying material may be passed through a heated tube in countercurrent. Carbon bisulphide is separated from the issuing gases, and the remaining sulphuretted hydrogen is absorbed in the residual de-sulphurized material which is discharged from the tube, thus producing further raw material. Pyrites and also various low-grade sulphur-containing earths may be utilized in the process. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the use of organic compounds other than hydrocarbons and states that hydrocarbons of high molecular weight and their sulphur derivatives are obtained as by-products. When nitrogen or nitrogen compounds such as ammonia are present or when organic nitrogen compounds are used, hydrocyanic and sulphocyanic acids are obtained. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
