Abstract
265,148. Vereinigte Stahlwerke Akt.- Ges. Bochumer Verein, (Assignees of Cramer, H.). Jan. 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Rolling flanged and profile bars.-In a process for utilizing the idle pass grooves 8 - - 14 of three-high rolling mills such as those used for rolling rails or other profiled bars without the necessity of providing a new middle roll, the contact surfaces 'between the rolls are of pronounced conical form so as to facilitate the reconditioning of the rolls by a turning operation after the operative pass grooves 1 - - 7 have become worn. Such contact surfaces 16 to 17, 27 to 26, 19 to 20, 28 to 29, &c. are indicated in Fig. 2. It is stated in the Specification that by turning down the rolls by half the amount which would be normally necessary to restore the pass groove after wear, the wear on the contact surfaces is obviated. The machinery of the rolls is carried out in such a manner that first the pass grooves 1 - - 7 are completed while the idle pass grooves 8 - - 14 are only preliminarily turned. After wear of the first set of pass grooves, the second set are finish turned, and when these in turn become worn the first set of grooves are reconditioned by a further turning operation.
