Abstract

263,616. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Bolton, R. A. R. Dec. 16, 1925. Addition to 237,730. Cut-out arrangements. - In the arrangement for the protection of a rotary converter 1 against heavy overloads which may produce a flash-over at the commutator of the converter (which is provided with a circuit-breaker 10 on the A.C. side) by means of a relay 5 which trips the circuit-breaker 10 when the voltage across the brushes 3 falls off due to a flash-over, as described in the parent Specification, the relay 5 controls also (and simultaneously) a switch 12, 13 in the D.C. side and/or a switch 16, 17 in the excitation circuit of the converter. The maintaining coils 11, 13, 17 are connected in series with one another, with the relay 5 and the auxiliary source 18. When the relay 5 opens due to a reduction of voltage across its coil 6 all the switches assume the open position simultaneously.
