Vibration-dampers. - The free space between the shells of a conical disc or similar friction shock-absorber is almost entirely closed, to prevent the entrance of dust or dirt, by one or two cup or ring shaped members which are cut away in parts to allow passage of the arms and are provided with observation openings. In the scissors type shown in Fig. 1, the two inner shells 1, 2 are forced apart, by a spring 4, against the outer shells which are held by a central bolt not shown. The space between the inner shells is closed by means of the cupshaped member 3, shown also in Fig. 3. The member 3 is held in position by the spring 4 and is formed with an opening 13 for the operating arms and with a small opening 8 by means of which the gap between the inner shells 1, 2, and hence the degree of adjustment of the apparatus, can be observed. The member 3 may be riveted to one of the shells 1, 2 or may be disposed between the shell and the frictional material Two members with interfitting rims may be employed and the rims may be between or inside the shells 1, 2. One or two cylindrical collars may be riveted or welded to the rims of the shells.
