Abstract

Thermionic amplifiers and detectors. - In a thermionic amplifier, detector or modulator, means are provided to regulate automatically the grid bias so that the output maintains a substantially fixed relation to the input. Fig. 2 shows an amplifier in which grid current from the valves 36, 37 is arranged to produce a voltage drop in a resistance or a reactance 46 which drop is applied to the grids of the following stage of amplification and by adjustment of the element 46 a substantially straight operating characteristic is obtainable. In a modification two rectifier circuits arranged differentially are coupled to the input and output respectively and the combined current is passed through a resistance or reactance, the voltage drop in which is used to bias the grids of the valves in one stage of the amplifier.
