Abstract
262,780. Lawrence Leather Co., A. C., (Assignees of Kelley, C. P., and White, E. W.). Dec. 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Multiple superposed coatings. - Enamelled patent leather is prepared by coating leather with a layer coloured, for example, by metal powder and subsequently adding a further translucent layer which may be of a different colour. In an example, the leather is first given a coat of linseed oil and pyroxylin which is then dried and a second coat of linseed oil and pyroxylin containing a metallic powder, e.g. aluminium or bronze powder, is then added. The second coat becomes incorporated with the first owing to partial solution of the dried coat. After drying, a fluid coat of linseed oil varnish containing naphtha, as used for black patent leather, is added, having, if desired, colouring matter sufficient to modify the colour of the second coat. The leather is then baked at about 140‹ C. and exposed to sunlight or other actinic light.
