Brake mechanism.-In order to facilitate removal of the wheel of a bicycle, the brake pads, which act on the inner surface of the rim, are mounted in holders adapted to be turned outwards away from the wheel without unscrewing or removing any part. The pads 4, 4<a> are carried by holders 8, 8<a> adapted to be turned into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, after they have been disengaged, by a forward or rearward sliding movement, from retaining-surfaces or stops on bearing members 6, 6a adjustably fixed to the lower ends of the usual sliding yoke 2. As shown, the holders 8, 8<a> are fixed to spindles 7, 7a, rotatable in the bearing members 6, 6<a>, and also slidable therein against the action of springs 9, while in a modification, the holders 8, 8<a> slide over spindles fixed to the members 6, 6<a>. The holders 8, 8a are retained in the normal inturned position either by resting on inclined retaining surfaces on the members 6, 6<a>, or by the engagement of stop pins on the parts 8, 8<a> and 6, 6<a> respectively, the parts being so arranged that the pad-holders are firmly supported in a converging position as shown.
