Abstract

261,562. Jones, W. Dec. 24, 1925. Guards, controlling.-A swinging guard for a power press, whose, plunger c is connected by a rod c<2> to a cranked or eccentric part a<2> of a shaft a driven through a one-revolution clutch, is released for independent operation immediately the crank a<2> commences to move angularly from. the top of the throw by the withdrawal of a catch operated by the crank. The catch comprises a member e movable horizontally in a guide d<2> provided in a bracket d adjustably secured to the upper end of the plunger c. The lower end. of a lever f, pivoted to lugs d<3> on the bracket d, engages the member e, while its upper end bears, through an adjustable pin f<4>, against the face c<3> of the connecting-rod end, being maintained in contact therewith by a spring g acting on the member e. The guard comprises an arm i pivoted on a bar h adjustably secured to the front of tha press frame., the lower end of the arm being provided with a cushioning device i<4> and the upper end being provided with a cam-shaped portion i<3>. Normally, the portion i<3> is engaged by the end of the member e, so that the guard is held to one side of the press. Immediately the rod c<2> commences to swing, when the press is started, the member e is withdrawn from the portion i<3> and the guard is swung down by a spring j. During the ascent of the plunger, the portion i<3> is again engaged by the member e and the guard is returned to its normal position.
