Abstract

261,529. Hall, R. E. Oct. 19, 1925. Moulding pulp. - In the manufacture of containers from felted and compressed stock reinforced by wire mesh, especially at the intersection of the side walls and the base, the wire mesh is placed on a perforated forming mould which is immersed in a, pulp solution of the fibrous stock. Suction is exerted on the interior of the mould and the stock adheres to the mesh. The pulp is then compressed on the mould to remove excess of water, before the suction is released. The mesh is embedded in the fibrous material of the sides 2 and base 1<1>; it may be formed as a basket to reinforce part of or the whole of the base and may be extended up the sides to the top of the container or additional pieces of mesh may be employed for the upper part of the side wall. In some cases the mesh is placed in a basket of fine mesh and coated on the inside, the fine mesh basket being then removed. It is then placed upon the perforated mould immersed in the solution and suction applied to form a coating on the exterior.
