Abstract
261,528. Michel, G. Oct. 17, 1925. Dry processes of refining magnesium; alloys.- Magnesium and its alloys are purified or refined by the addition to the molten metal of calcium in the form of small particles between 5 and 50 mesh. The metal to be treated is melted with magnesium fluoride; the calcium, which may be contained in a magnesium tube, is introduced into the molten mass, and the surface of the bath may then be covered with ammonium chloride or other non-oxidizing agent.
