Abstract
261,483. Nicholls, F. Aug. 22, 1925. Inking-apparatus.-In an intaglioplate printing-machine means are provided for progressively increasing the pressure of the wiper on the plate as the contact point of the wiper with the plate moves from the leading end of the plate to the trailing end. The wiping- pad 12 is carried by a stem 13 mounted in a guide 14 and is pressed on to the printing-plate on the drum 10 by a spring 16 arranged between a shoulder on the stem and an adjustable cap 15 on the guide. The guide itself is movable vertically and is moved downwards to increase gradually the pressure of the pad on the plate as the plate travels past the pad by mechanism operated by a spiral cam 18 on the shaft of the drum 10. The mechanism shown is adapted to allow of a reciprocating movement of the pad longitudinally of the drum 10. For this purpose the guide 14 is mounted on a bar 113 which may be reciprocated in any suitable manner and has pivoted thereto a lever 28 connected at one end by a link 32 to an arm 33 on a shaft carrying a pinion 34 in engagement with a rack 35 on the guide 14. The other end of the lever 28 carries a rolder 30 engaging the underside of a plate 25 pivoted to the machine frame 11 and oscillated by connections 24. 20 from the cam 18. The plate 25 is slightly wider than the length of stroke of the bar 113 so that the roller 30 remains in continuous contact with it. The pinion and rack gear 34, 35 may be replaced by a forked arm engaging trunnions or a flange on the guide 14.
