The plate i slides in a frame g, and has a portion m stamped out in a downward direction to form the cutting edge, a portion o being turned back to form a guide for the strip of material. The aperture n is closed with gelatine &c. Stops k prevent the plate from being moved too far. In modifications, the knife may be replaced by a cutting wire, or may move in a circular or arcuate path, or the mass may be pressed against the plate by weights or springs.
