Abstract

260,893. James, R. W., (United States Hoffman Machinery Corporation). June 7, 1926. Ironing-machines with pressing action only.- In a garment or like press in which the head 5 is lowered by depressing a treadle 7 and in which heavy pressure is applied by a motor rotating a cam 18, there is provided a lever 45 for locking the press in closed position with either heavy or light pressure applied and which can be released by a kick-off pedal 43 but only after the heavy pressure has been released. The locking lever 45, pivoted at 47, is itself locked when heavy pressure is applied by a counterweighted lever 55 engaging a lug 54 in a rearward extension thereof. This lever is released from the lug by a collar 62 on a rod 59 which is given a sliding motion on the release of the heavy pressure by an arm 61 integral with the rocker element 15. Further movement of the rod 59 causes it to engage an abutment 63 on the locking lever 45 thereby swinging the lever to free its recessed portion 50 from a roller 51 on the treadle 7, thereby permitting the spring 20 to open the press. The motor is controlled by switches located in a casing 33 which are closed by a sliding rod 40 controlled by the operation and opened by movement of a bar 29 operated from the camshaft 19.
