Abstract

Tunnels.-Flexible framing for mine levels is built up of similar wood or concrete blocks of a length corresponding to the width of the framing and arranged substantially radially of the level, the cross-section of each block being circular or a part of a circle at least at its inner end. Inner ends of the blocks may contact in transverse or longitudinal rows. The blocks may be frustoconical or may have rounded inner ends and elliptical outer ends. With concrete blocks, the blocks may be spaced and embedded in a yielding mass consisting of a mixture of sawdust, cement, sand, loam, &c.
