Abstract
260,082. Hodgson, J. L. Sept. 16, 1925. Pitot-tube apparatus.-For measuring air or gas velocities in mine passages, ventilation tunnels &c., a liquid manometer of the curved-tube type, such as is described in Specification 216,592, [Class 106 (ii), Dynamometers &c.], is adapted to be fitted to a backboard or tripod, and is combined with a portable Pitot tube adapted to be attached either to a long handle or to a bracket. Fig. 1 shows a manometer which is supported on a back plate 2 by means of pins 3, 4, and is levelled by a screw 1. It is fitted with spirit levels, 5, 5a, leather-faced caps 6, 7 for sealing the pipe connections 8, 9, a cap 10 for sealing the hole through which liquid is introduced to the manometer, and a displacer 11<a> for adjusting the liquid level. An attachment 12 enables the manometer to be fixed to a miner's tripod. A Pitot tube 21, Fig. 5, is attached to a handlo 15, or to brackets on the walls of the ducts or passages in which the air flow is to be measured, and is connected to the manometer by pipes connecting the nipples 8, 18, 9. 19. To ensure proper alignment of the Pitot tube, its upper end has two screw ends which enter the slot in the spade-end 14a on the handle 15 &c.
