Abstract

Brush - holders.-In duplex brush gear, a spring-pressed plunger is provided to press on each brush portion and the springs 8, 9 that actuate the plungers 4, 5 are balanced against each other, so that if unequal wear should occur on the brush portions 1, 2 their pressure on the commutator will be maintained equal. The lower ends of the springs abut on collars 6, 7 attached to the plungers, and their upper ends against slidable sleeves 10, 11 provided with rack teeth meshing with a common pinion 15 located between them. The pinion and the plunger guide 12 are carried by a bracket 18 slidable on a ratchet 20 attached to the arm 3, the ratchet being kept in engagement with a projection 19 by a spring 21. To facilitate renewals &c., the plunger guide 12 is pivoted at 17.
