Thiuram disulphides. - Alkaline solutions of polythionic acids or their salts are employed as oxidizing agents for organic compounds. In examples (1) a solution containing the reaction product from methylaniline and carbon disulphide and sodium hydrate is oxidized by polythionate solution; the product is dimethyldiphenylthiuram disulphide (2) dimethyldithiocarbamic acid is oxidized to tetramethylthiuram disulphide by means of sodium tetrathionate.
