Abstract

259,335. Kõlle, T. July 29, 1925. Bourdon pressure gauges; indicating-means for. -Comprises thermo-electric means for indicating at a distance temperature, pressure, the velocity of a current of air or gas, &c. characterized by the combination of two similar electric devices connected to the same source of current, the temperature and length of a conductor in one device being dependent on the factor to be measured while the conductor conditions in the other device depend upon and agree with those in the first and effect movement of a pointer over a scale. In the case illustrated of a pressure gauge, each electric device comprises a bare conductor 2 wound around a plate 3 and insulated therefrom, while the top parts are connected to a cross-piece 4 and insulated. A rod 5 connected to the cross-piece is pressed upwards by a spring 7 engaging a collar 6 and is connected to a bell-crank 9 pivoted in a bracket 8. The bellcrank carries a contact 10 facing a contact 11 carried by the free end of a Bourdon tube 12, the free end of which moves against the influence of a spring 14 which may be adjusted by a screw 15. The lower device is similar except that the rod 5 is connected by a link and pin-and-slot to a toothed sector 17 in gear with a pinion moving a needle 19 over a scale. The devices are connected up in series with a source of current by lead 21, flexible leads 22, 23, 24, leads 25, flexible leads 26, 27 and lead 28. In use, the contact 11 is moved by a rising pressure to engage the contact 10 and make the circuit; the conductors are warmed and lengthen and the spring 7 moves the contact 10 away from the contact 11. The conductors cool and contact is re-established and so on until a balance is struck when the reading of the needle 19 on its scale indicates the pressure. For indicating temperature one contact of the device is moved by a member exposed to the temperature. For indicating the velocity of an air or gas current, the two pipes from a Pitot tube device are led to opposite sides of a diaphragm actuating a contact similarly to the Bourdon tube 12.
